Helping Little Ones with ADHD in My Classroom
In my years of teaching, I have met many different kinds of children. Some children find it hard to sit still. Some forget things quickly. Some talk a lot or move around a lot. Some get distracted very easily. Many times, these children have something called ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
I don’t see ADHD as a “problem.” I see it as a different way of thinking and living. These children are not “naughty” or “bad.” They are just full of energy, full of ideas, and full of life.
The Special Gifts of Children with ADHD
Big Imagination – They can think of ideas that surprise everyone.
Lots of Energy – They can bring life to any game or activity.
Brave to Try New Things – They are not afraid to explore.
Strong Feelings – They care deeply about things they love.
Fast Thinking – Their minds can move quickly and make interesting connections.
How I Help My Little Ones with ADHD
I have learned some ways to make school a happy place for them:
Short and Fun Activities
I make tasks small, with breaks in between, so they don’t get tired or bored.Movement Time
I give them a chance to stand up, stretch, or walk around when they need to.Clear and Simple Rules
I keep my rules short and easy to remember, like “Be kind” or “Raise your hand.”Special Jobs
Sometimes I give them small jobs, like handing out pencils or turning off the lights. It helps them feel important and responsible.Praise More Than Correct
I try to notice and praise their good moments more than pointing out mistakes.Quiet Corner
I have a cozy corner with books, cushions, and soft toys where they can calm down if they feel upset or restless.
What I Have Learned from Them
Children with ADHD have taught me patience, creativity, and kindness. They remind me that every child learns in their own way. When I understand them and help them, they shine like bright stars.
As a teacher, I believe it is my job to make every child feel seen, loved, and accepted—just the way they are.
